The Woodman, Birmingham
Kikimora Records & The Woodman Session team are delighted to welcome Tightrope Moon to Birmingham for an intimate 40-capacity show to celebrate Imbolc, the cross-quarter day which marks the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.
This event will begin with a short floorspot (TBA) and end with a folk session, so bring your instruments. Inbetween, Tightrope Moon (duo of Seth Bye and Cori Smith) will cast a silver web as violin, viola and vocals entwine in celestial sounds and hypnotic melodies. From gronky re-imaginings of English, Swedish and American tunes to delicate compositions and ethereal improvisations, their spiraling melodies feel like secrets whispered in the dark - a dose of magic to beckon the lighter days ahead...
£12 (standard) // £15 (supporter) // £7 (student)
WHATS ON
Tightrope Moon | listen here |
For Tightrope Moon, making music is an intimate alchemy - carefully crafting ‘other worlds’ and sharing them with audiences across the country. Individually, Seth and Cori have performed at leading folk festivals including FolkEast, Sidmouth, Cambridge and Shrewsbury. Now, as Tightrope Moon, their magnetic performances crackle with bewitchment.
The duo’s electrifying groove-based tunes create a sound that is otherworldly, yet deeply rooted in tradition. Their songs spin out stories old and new, as haunting vocal harmonies floating over delicate pizzicato latticework. Tales of the forest merge with daydreams in the big city as they infuse acoustic instruments with eerie experimental electronics.

MEET OUR FRIENDS: THE WOODMAN SESSION
This monthly folk session, held at The Woodman pub in Birmingham City Centre, brings musicians and singers together to share tunes and songs from any tradition. It is a fully open, inclusive gathering where participants are encouraged to bring their own favourites and join in however they feel comfortable.
The session welcomes people of all backgrounds, instruments, and experience levels. With beginners in mind, tunes often circulate more times than usual, giving everyone the chance to pick them up or find a way to take part. While it isn’t a teaching session, the atmosphere is supportive and designed to help newcomers ease into the flow.
To make participation even easier, two tunes are shared in advance of each meeting, complete with recordings and sheet music. These pieces are guaranteed to be played on the night, ensuring that there is always an accessible entry point for anyone who wants to join in.
